Percutaneous Laser Disk Decompression

PLDD is a minimally invasive laser treatment performed using local anaesthesia for disc hernia/protrusion in selected patients. It's main indications are acute sciatica, discogenic spinal stenosis and dicogenic spine pain.

PLDD is an abbreviation of Percutaneous Laser Disc Decompression. The procedure is performed using local anesthesia. A thin needle is inserted to the intervertebral disc under X-ray guidance. A laser fibre is introduced through the needle directed to  the nucleus of the disk. A small cavity is created in the intervertebral disc, a vacuum effect is created and as a result the herniated disc retracts and subsequently decompresses the nerve.

PLDD takes only around 30 minutes. After surgery, the patient rests for 1 or 2 hours and after that he can go home.  The percutaneous procedure does not damage the vertebral body and it leaves no scars.
